The Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation supports ALL water-training resources that educate children and adults on how to swim, float, and become safe in and around water. The Float for Life program developed through the partnership of the Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation and the YMCA of Lincoln, NE. Together they implemented the first infant and toddler water-training courses in the city. These courses teach children 9 months to toddlers to float on their back, kick to and then grab the side of the pools edge.
It started with the partnership of their local YMCA of Lincoln, NE and now has expanded to 17 other Y’s across Nebraska and is currently in place in the Salvation Army KROC Center of Omaha, NE, teaching underprivileged children the importance of the life skills to float on their back and reach for the side of the pools edge. To date, they have taught over 2,000 infants and toddlers these life saving skills. We are now outreaching to several teaching facilities with the goal of Joshua’s Foundation to expand, support, and promote these types of programs around the country. www.float4life.org
1.2 Million people around the world die by drowning every year, that is more than two persons per minute. (International Life Saving Federation, 2010)
Drowning is preventable. Let’s not make a tragedy necessary to alert people to consider water safety and awareness. www.joshuamemorial.org
